A virus is an inert particle outside its hosts. Prior to having a host organism it is called “virion” and it has neither metabolism, nor replication capability, nor autonomous evolution.  Therefore, a virus is an infectious agent that can only replicate within a host organism. Viruses can infect a variety of living organisms.  Viruses gain their power by worming their way into living (biological) cells, quickly hijacking the cells’ machinery, then reproducing like mad. Soon they are spilling out into other cells, infecting them, too
